About Me
John has trained, written, and performed with various comedy troupes including the famous North American SECOND CITY THEATRE CO., the inspiration and casting pool for SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. He is both writer and director of DIRTY RATS, a dark, tragi-comedy feature film that is being produced by Paradox Pictures, developed with support from Bord Scannan/ Irish Film Board, MEDIA, ACE and the 22nd eQuinoxe Screenwriters Workshop, Germany. He has numerous feature films in development including BONEHEAD, a screwball/caper comedy with support from The Harold Greenberg Fund, the development arm of The Movie Network/Astral Media, Toronto. In addition to creating for the page and stage, his background includes extensive experience in all aspects of visual art. Renowned for his dark, humorous vision of the world, he worked internationally for over fifteen years as an award-winning illustrator and designer. His work won was featured in exhibits and publications including ZOOM Magazine, France. He served as production designer for short films and theatrical productions, most notably the Off-Broadway play CAGED with renowned Canadian clowns of horror/comedy, Mump & Smoot, at New York’s famous Astor Place Theatre. His theatrical credits include co-writing and directing three productions that were presented at Dublin’s Andrews Lane Theatre for Blackbox Theatre Company. He directed BUS SPOTTING, a one man tour-de-force by Irish comic and playwright Colman Higgins which was presented at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, 2005 to rave reviews. As a drama facilitator, John has lectured and conducted workshops and master-classes for The Samuel Beckett Centre BAS programme at Trinity College Dublin, Dublin’s Gaiety School of Acting, the Galway Film Centre, the Actors Centre in London, and Toronto’s Equity Showcase Theatre where he served as director-in-residence. Graduate students from his on-going improvisation workshops perform regularly for audiences in a Dublin venue. Having British/Canadian dual citizenship and EU National status/Irish residency, John is involved in a number of co-productions.
